From Fearful to Fabulous

This isn’t a piece about me being a military housewife. Not about being a mum or a committee member. It’s not about Him deploying or my ongoing love affair with Prosecco. It’s not about shipping out or washing up. Picking up poop or burning baked goods. It’s not about bitterness or boredom nor is it about loneliness or loving. It is so far removed from the gushing and the gossiping. The parties and the prosecco (See, I can’t help myself!)
It is deeper and more raw than that. It is about being on a journey.
When you know you are on the right path, but you need that one final push to send you soaring over the edge.
When it’s 3am, you’re awake, your heart is racing, your mind is tumbling and you know that your whole being is teetering on the edge of glory, of success.
But there’s something holding you back. A niggle. A panic. A doubt.

Read what a wise man once said and then go back to sleep, because this is real. You are real. Your desires and ambitions are real. Stop making excuses. Keep going. The race is long and in the end, it’s only with yourself.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves,
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of a god.
Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to manifest the glory of the god that is within us.
It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Nelson Mandela

He was imprisoned for 27 years.

As mums and wives  I reckon we imprison ourselves with excuses, obligations and martyrdom…

You think you have time.

That thing that you want to do? Go do that.

Until next time

  3. Wow ! You left a comment on my Babyfriend.net blog so I thought I would stop by out of courtesy and return the favour…..I didn’t know you had posted the one post that would knock me sideways !
Seriously, I am unhappy with the way my life is at the moment so I made plans to change it. The plans include building a following through my blog, website, FB and Twitter etc, and writing a the Babycare book that no one else can write……but I keep getting stuck. Things scare me, I put things off, I hesitate, I make excuses and very commonly, I think ‘what if I am not good enough ???’
It wasn’t until I read the first few lines of this post that I realised what I am actually scared of is being a success.
What if I become really successful ? Will I be able to cope ? How would it change my life ? Would I be able to cope with the pressure, the fear of letting people down ? Will I look fat on camera ? !! A million questions just flooded through my mind and reduced me to a confused little heap.
This is going to take some thinking about but the thoughts won’t be about whether or not I should go ahead, but how to figure out ways to acknowledge my fears, work through them, then buckle down and go all out to make my life the way I want it.
Any tips ?? Sounds like you are in a similar place.
    Thanks again for the post,
    Sarah xxx

    • Sarah, I’m so glad you read it then. Maybe you were quietly asking for a sign, someone to give you permission to be successful … And look! You’ve got it. DM me your e-mail address on Twitter and I’ll be in touch xx

  4. Love this! I’m guilty of thinking of a long list of reasons and excuses why I shouldn’t do things. It even took me 6 months to start a blog as I was worried nobody would read it, I’d have nothing to write about, I wasn’t good enough… (and the list of excuses went on). In the end I just started writing – and I did it for me just because I love writing. Sometimes I just need to take a leap of faith and go for it. I need to apply that philosophy to other areas in my life and not worry about the ‘what ifs’. You’ve reminded me why that is so important 🙂 Hx

  6. Thank you so much for the words of inspiration, I really needed them today. I have long struggled with putting off my dreams because I was too busy with “real life.” But really I was just afraid. Afraid I would fail. Afraid I would succeed. Both were equally scary to me.
And who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? – boy, that hits home.
Nelson Mandela is indeed a wise man! Thanks for the encouragement.
And um, silly question I’m sure but what the heck is Prosecco?

  8. What a fabulous and inspiring post! i’m going to keep trying to do what I dream! I love the quote by Nelson Mandela! Thanks for sharing this! Sometimes I wake in the night and have ideas or thoughts and quickly write it down before going back to sleep. Often the inspiration comes in the still of the night and if i don’t pay attention and follow through it will be gone with the morning dust.

  9. Gosh, what a fantastic read. You’re so right, we really should just go and do whatever it is that we want to do. We shouldn’t be fearful of whatever it is that’s stopping us to do something. Your words are an inspiration, thank you for sharing and for linking up with #thisweekiveloved xx
